The methods involve sterilizing one or more tissues with irradiation.

    Theophylline immunogens, antibodies prepared therefrom, labeled theophylline conjugates, synthetic intermediates, and the use of such antibodies and labeled conjugates in immonoassays for determining theophylline are disclosed. The immunogens comprise theophylline coupled at its 9-position to an immunogenic carrier material. Likewise, the labeled conjugates and synthetic intermediates are 9-position derivatives of theophylline or synthetic precursors thereof. The antibody and labeled reagents are particularly useful in homogeneous nonradioisotopic immunoassays for measuring theophylline in biological fluids such as serum.

    This invention relates to methods for producing optically active hydroxyesters and also to methods for producing and purifying optically active five-membered ring lactones. More specifically, the invention provides methods for efficiently, safely, and selectively producing and purifying optically active (R)-hydroxyester (shown by formula 1) and optically active (S)-hydroxyester (shown by formula 2) in high state of purity at ordinary temperature. The invention also relates to application of the inter-convertible optically active (R)-five-membered ring lacton (shown by formula 5). They are intermediates for synthesizing various medicines, agricultural chemicals, and biologically active substances, however especially useful for synthesizing pheromone of a noxious insect, Popillia japonica Newman.     The present invention provides a dry solid medium for storing a sample of a genetic material, including RNA and DNA, in a form suitable for subsequent analysis. The dry solid medium of the invention includes a dry solid matrix and a composition including a protein denaturing agent, and a chelating agent. The dry solid medium can further include a component which functions in subsequent analysis of the genetic material using, for example, PCR, reverse transcriptase initiated PCR, LCR, RFLP, or genetic hybridization. A component for subsequent analysis includes, for example, a nucleotide sequences such as a primer, DNA or RNA probe, and a target sequence stabilizer. The dry solid medium can also include a retaining agent to enhance retention of a component for subsequent analysis. The invention also provides methods for using the dry solid medium of the invention. The dry solid media and methods of use thereof are particularly suited for use in automated systems.
