    A process for producing a resin ahving a high refractive index which comprises radically polymerizing a material monomer, characterized in that said material monomer comprises [I] at least one polymerizable monomer selected from the group consisting of a polyfunctional thioacrylate and a polyfunctional thiomethacrylate (as an indispensable component), and optionally [II] at least one other polymerizable monomer which is radically polymeriz­able with said polymerizable monomer [I], a resin having a high refractive index produced by said process and optical materials, especially lenses and disk substrates prepared from said resin.

    A liquid composition stable during storage and polymerizable radically into organic glasses having a high refractive index, containing: A) from 20 to 80% wt of a mixture of monomer and oligomers of a carbonic allyl derivative representable by the formula (I): where: x = halogen (except fluorine); a and b independently assume the values 1 or 2; n assumes values from 1 to 5 on condition that at least 10% by weight of the mixture consists of carbonic allyl oligomer derivatives (n>1); and (B) from 80 to 20% by weight of a liquid monomer copolymerizable with the component (A) and chosen from diallyl isophthalate, diallyl terephthalate, triallyl cyanurate and triallil isocyanurate.

    The present invention discloses an optical material having excellent transparency, impact resistance and heat resistance and having a low specific gravity and a high refractive index comprising a resin obtained by radical polymerization of specific difunctional (meth)acrylate (A) and aromatic vinyl monomer (B) and, if necessary, polymerizable monomer (C) copolymerizable with the ingre­dients (A), or (B) or by radical polymerization of the ingredients (A), (B) and (C) under the presence of a radical polymerizable or not-radical polymerizable com­pound having alkoxysilyl group, epoxy group, alcoholic hydroxy group or carboxyl group in the molecule, an optical molding product comprising the optical material, as well as production process therefor. The optical molding pro­duct is utilized as for ophthalmic lenses or lenses for various kinds of optical equipments, prisms, optical fibers, optical waveguides and optical discs.
