Reaction of S(NSO)2 with cis-MCl2(PR3)2 (M = Pt, PR3 = PMe3, PEt3, PPr3n, PBu3n, PPh3, PMePh2, PMe2Ph and dppe; M = Pd, PR3 = dppe) in liquid ammonia gives cis-M(NSO)2(PR3)2 quantitatively by 31P NMR and in 60% isolated yield. The new compounds have been characterized by microanalyses, IR, 1H and 31P NMR, mass spectrometry and in the case of Pt(NSO)2(PMe3)2, X-ray crystallography. The molecule has
