The Aza Wittig-type reaction of iminophosphorane derived from the ortho-azido acetophenone with isocyanates and aroyl chlorides leads to the previously unreported 4-methylene-4H-3,1-benzoxazine ring. The crystal and molecular structure of 2-[2-(4-methoxybenzoylamino)phenyl]-4-methylquinoline has been established by X-Ray diffraction methods.

(+)-(R)- and (-)-(S)-3,3,3-trifluoro-2-methyl-alanine (1) were synthesized from (+)-(R)-methyl-p-tolylsulphoxide (5) and N-alkoxycarbonylimino derivatives 4 of methyl 3,3,3-trifluoropyruvate (3). The absolute configuration was determined by X-ray analyses of two synthetic intermediates (2S,R(S))-6a and (2R,R(S))-6c.
Organocatalytic asymmetric cyanation of isatin derived N-Boc ketoimines

We report the first catalytic asymmetric cyanation of N-Boc ketoimines, which enables highly enantioselective synthesis of oxindole based α-amino nitriles. An unprecedented tandem aza-Wittig/Strecker reaction is also developed, emerging as a promising strategy for the catalytic asymmetric cyanation of ketoimines formed in situ from achiral ketones.

A simple and generalmethod in the synthesis of N-alkoxycarbonyl ketimines derived from isatins has been described first. Generally, the enantioselective addition of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds to this kind of ketimine affords chiral 3-amino oxindoles in high yield and excellent ee.
