Tricyclic antidepressant drug (e.g., imipramine, desipramine, amitriptyline, or nortriptyline) immunogens, antibodies prepared therefrom, labeled conjugates, synthetic intermediates, and the use of such antibodies and labeled conjugates in immunoassays for determining such drug. The immunogens comprise the drug coupled at its 2'-position to an immunogenic carrier material. Similarly, the labeled conjugates and synthetic intermediates are 2'-derivatives of the drug or a precursor thereof. The antibodies and labeled reagents are particularly useful in certain homogeneous nonradioisotopic immunoassays for measuring tricyclic antidepressant drugs in biological fluids such as serum.
designed and synthesized ten new 2,6-disubstituted anthraquinone derivatives with various piperazinyl side chains. The structural differences between quadruplex and duplex DNA were used to probe these derivatives for the end-stacking mode of binding with G-quadruplex DNA. These ligands were found to trigger apoptosis, exhibiting selective cytotoxicity toward cancer cells over normal cells.

Design and Synthesis of Xanthone Analogues Conjugated with Aza‐aromatic Substituents as Promising G‐Quadruplex Stabilizing Ligands and their Selective Cancer Cell Cytotoxic Action
Not for normal cells: Xanthone aza-aromatic derivatives stabilize higher-order noncanonical G-quadruplex (G4) DNA structures. Various biophysical experiments substantiated G4 stabilization by these promising small-molecular ligands. Compound-induced selective cytotoxic action in cancer cells over normal cells exhibited the potency of these small-molecules for use in anticancer therapeutics.

An improved specific binding assay, e.g., homogeneous or heterogeneous immunoassay, for determining an analyte employing a labeled conjugate of said analyte and a photogenic, e.g., fluorescent, label. Where the analyte in the analyte-photophor conjugate whose light emission is measured in the assay as a function of the analyte is capable of significantly reducing such light emission upon coming into quenching orientation with the photophor, the present invention employs a labeled conjugate in which the analyte is joined to the photogenic label by a linking group which substantially hinders such quenching orientation. In this manner, ten percent or more of the photogenicity of the unconjugated photophor can be preserved in the measured analyte-photophor conjugate. The use of conventional flexible linking groups in the labeled conjugate allows quenching to occur with attendant large losses in assay sensitivity, whereas sensitivity is increased in the present invention by the use of relatively rigid linking groups. The invention is applicable to a wide variety of photogenic, e.g., fluorescent and chemiluminescent, binding assay techniques.
