New stable heteroleptic germanium(II) and tin(II) compounds [(SiMe3)2N-E14-OCH2CH2NMe2]n (E14 = Ge, n = 1 (1), Sn, n = 2 (2)) have been synthesized and their crystal structures have been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. While compound 1 is monomer stabilized by intramolecular Ge ← N coordination, compound 2 is associated to dimer via intermolecular dative Sn ← O interactions.

New stable divalent tin derivatives containing no bulky substituents at the metal atom, Hal—Sn— OCH2CH2NMe2 (Hal = Cl or F), were synthesized, and their crystal structures were studied by X-ray diffraction. Unlike the analogous monomeric divalent germanium derivative Cl—Ge—OCH2CH2NMe2, the new compounds are centrosymmetric dimers formed via two intermolecular Sn←CO coordination bonds.

Equatorialâaxial isomerism of the tin(II)âiron(0) complex (Me2NCH2CH2O)2SnâFe(CO)4 (2), which indicates that the free Sn(OCH2CH2NMe2)2 (1) ligand can behave as a stannylene, has been revealed and studied by NMR and IR spectroscopy in solution as well as by Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis in the solid-state.
