Photoinduced electrocyclization of substituted bicyclo[4.4.1]undecadienes and bicyclo[4.2.1]nonadienes, derived from chromium(0)-promoted [6π+4π] and [6π+2π] cycloadditions, respectively, afforded polycyclic products possessing substantial stereochemical information.
