Abstract The reaction of amidines 1 with hexamethylphosphoric triamide in refluxing toluene is described as a simple and efficient method for the synthesis of 1,3,2-diazaphosphorine-2-oxide derivatives 3. The structures of all the synthesized compounds have been established by NMR (1H, 13C, 31P) and IR spectroscopy, as well as by elemental analysis and in the case of 3d by MS spectral data. GRAPHICAL
