Abstract Solvent-free acetylation of alcohols, phenols, amines, and thiols with acetic anhydride (Ac2O) in the presence of 0.1 mol% (13 mg) anhydrous NiCl2, an inexpensive and easily available catalyst, is described. Excellent yields, short reaction time, and mild reaction conditions are important features of this method.

Extremely strong nonionic superbases of the type P(RNCH(2)CH(2))(3)Ncatalyze the transesterification of carboxylic acid esters with high selectivity and yields at 25 degrees C. These bases also catalyze the deacetylation of alcohols undermildconditions in quantitative yields. Using enol acetates as acylating agents, primary and secondary alcohols are efficiently protected as acetates through the
N-Phenyldiethanolamine (1f) is an efficient ligand for zinc-catalyzed transesterification of alcohols with vinyl acetate (R3 = Me) at room temperature. In the case of using other vinyl esters (R3 = Et, n-Pr, Ph), the corresponding products were easily obtained in the presence of pyridine-type ligand 2 instead of aminoalcohol 1f.

Abstract A Simple and efficient route to the regioselective acylation of benzodioxin derivatives using AICI3-DMSO or AICI3-DMF as reagent with acyl halides and anhydrides is described.
The synthesis of highly negatively charged polyoxometalates with electrically and structurally controlled uniform basic sites can lead to the unique base catalysis. In this work, a γ‐Keggin germanodecatungstate, [γ‐HGeW10O36]7− (A), having a −7 charge was, for the first time, successfully synthesized by the reaction of [γ‐H2GeW10O36]6− with one equivalent of [(n‐C4H9)4N]OH under non‐aqueous conditions
