    The present invention relates to compounds according to formula (I) and to heat-curable resin compositions based on polymaleimide resin systems comprising such compounds as co-monomers: wherein R1 signifies an 1-alkenyl- or 2-alkenyl group with 3 to 6 carbon atoms, wherein R2 signifies hydrogen or an alkoxy group with up to 2 carbon atoms, wherein R3 signifies hydrogen or an alkyl group with up to 4 carbon atoms, and wherein R4 signifies hydrogen or an alkyl group with up to 4 carbon atoms. The present invention also relates to crosslinked resins obtainable by curing such compositions. Compounds of the present invention can be used amongst others in fields like structural adhesives, matrix resins for fiber prepregs, moulding compounds, as well as structural and/or electrical composites.

    Allylic styrene ether compounds of the formula: where R1 is an optionally substituted allylic or propargyl hydrocarbon group, and R2, R3, and R4 are independently H, C1-6 hydrocarbon or C1-6 hydrocarbonoxy groups, are prepared in a single pot reaction from relatively low cost materials. The method includes the steps of reacting a 4-acyloxystyrene of the formula where R is an acyl group, with at least one mole of a base which can readily saponify or hydrolyze the phenolic ester bond per mole of acyloxystyrene, and then adding to the reaction mixture an alkylating agent of the formula R1X, where R1 is as previously defined and X is chloride, bromide, iodide, a sulfonic ester or a hydrocarbon sulfate group, to form said allylic styrene ether compound. The method may be employed to prepare mono-styryl functional compounds or distyryl functional compounds such as 1,4-bis(4'-vinylphenoxy)but-2-ene.

    Subjects for the present invention are to provide a thickening agent for excavation stabilizing slurries which has excellent cement contamination resistance, is difficult to putrefy, and is prevented from bubbling, which may be problematic in construction works, and to provide an excavation stabilizing slurry containing the thickening agent and a cast-in-place underground pile method and an diaphragm wall construction method each using the slurry. The present invention provides a thickening agent for excavation stabilizing slurries which contains an emulsion thickening with an alkali, wherein in a strong agitation bubbling test of a mixture prepared by adding an alkaline substance to the thickening agent, the resulting mixture has an apparent specific gravity of 1.05 g/ml or higher as measured immediately after the strong agitation and has an apparent specific gravity of 1.10 g/ml or higher as measured at 10 minutes after the strong agitation. This thickening agent is used to prepare an excavation stabilizing slurry.
