  In aqueous and aqueous-alkaline solutions, sodium p-octylphenolate forms anionic micelles that absorb O-ethyl-O-p-nitrophenyl ethylphosphonate before the reaction that proceeds on the micellar surface. The micelle formation is suppressed in systems containing organic solvent and water. However, for these systems, the rate of the reaction with phenolates is affected by the association of ions in the ion pairs.

  This invention discloses a functional monomer, its use in a polymer, a rubbery composition, a tire, and a process to make such a rubbery composition.   The kinetics of reactions of ethylp-nitrophenyl ethylphosphonate with anionic nucleophiles in a detergentless water—oil microemulsion, formed in then-hexane—water—isopropyl alcohol system, was studied. The rate constants of the reactions in the microemulsion are higher than those in aqueous solutions and increase with increasing isopropyl alcohol: water ratio.

  PIPA polyols are made by reacting a low equivalent weight polyol with a polyisocyanate in the presence of a stabilizer. Low amounts, if any, of water are present. Useful stabilizers include functionalized linear or branched polyethers having at least one polyether segment having a molecular weight of 200 to 8000, wherein the functionalized polyether is terminated at one end with one or more isocyanate groups or with one or more isocyanate-reactive groups linked to the polyether through one or more urea and/or urethane groups, and further wherein all or a portion of such functionalized polyether contains one or more biuret, isocyanurate, urea or allophonate groups.
