In contrast, the thorium(IV) nitrate complex of stoichiometry Th3(m-XBP2)4(NO3)12 has a non-polymeric structure containing pairs of monomeric cations [Th(m-XBP2)2(NO3)3]+, with two bidentate m-XBP2 ligands and three chelating nitrate ligands, and a Th(NO3)6 2− counter anion. Photoluminescence data for the compounds M2(m-XBP2)3(NO3)6 (M=Eu, Tb) are also given.
