    A process for preparing trans-enriched MDACH, including: distilling an MDACH starting mixture in the presence of an auxiliary, which is an organic compound having a molar mass of 62 to 500 g/mol, a boiling point at least 5° C. above the boiling point of cis,cis-2,6-diamino-1-methylcyclohexane, and 2 to 4 functional groups, each of which is independently an alcohol group or a primary, secondary or tertiary amino group. The MDACH starting mixture includes 0 to 100% by weight of 2,4-MDACH and 0 to 100% by weight of 2,6-MDACH, based on the total amount of MDACH present in the MDACH starting mixture. The MDACH starting mixture includes both trans and cis isomers. Trans-enriched MDACH includes 0 to 100% by weight of 2,4-MDACH and 0 to 100% by weight of 2,6-MDACH, where the proportion of trans isomers in the mixture is higher than the proportion of trans isomers in the MDACH starting mixture.

    Aqueous coating compositions comprising film forming resin bearing reactive functionality and blocked polyisocyanate crosslinking agent which is at least partially solubilized with organic acid and which is stable at room temperature in the presence of said functinality, but reactive therewith at elevated temperatures. The blocked isocyanate is prepared by (A) reacting (i) organic diisocyanate bearing one isocyanate group which is more reactive than the other and (ii) sufficient active hydrogen containing blocking agent to react with substantially all of said more reactive isocyanate groups; and (B) reacting hydroxy functional amine bearing at least two hydroxyl groups and at least one tertiary amine nitrogen with sufficient reaction product (A) to react substantially all free or unblocked isocyanate groups of reaction product (A) with hydroxyl groups of said amine. Alternatively, the blocked isocyanate is prepared by (A) reacting an excess of organic diisocyanate with dihydroxy functional amine containing at least one tertiary nitrogen to form a isocyanate terminated tertiary amine containing intermediate; and (B) reacting the intermediate of (A) with sufficient active hydrogen containing blocking agent to react with substantially all of the terminal isocyanate groups of the intermediate.

    A magnetic recording medium comprising a non-magnetic supporting material and a magnetic layer which is made by dispersing ferromagnetic powder in a binding material and coated on the supporting material is characterized in that the binding material comprises a component made by graft polymerization of acrylic macromonomer having two terminal hydroxy functional groups and a molecular weight in the range from 1,000 to 10,000 to polyurethane resin. The problem of compatibility which occurs when acrylic resins and polyurethane resins are mixed together is solved and excellent properties of both of acrylic resins and polyurethane resins are exhibited simultaneously. Affinity between the binding material and magnetic powder is enhanced and the magnetic powder is dispersed into the binding material more homogeneously. Thus, high performance magnetic recording media having excellent smoothness of surface, durability and magnetic characteristics can be easily prepared. Magnetic recording media of the invention can be advantageously utilized to prepare, for example, magnetic tapes, magnetic sheets and magnetic disks.

    An agent for improving water resistance of ink-jet recording paper which comprises a cationic polyurethane resin obtained by neutralizing amine structures or quaternizing a tertiary amine structure in molecules of a polyurethane which is obtained by reacting (A) an organic isocyanate compound having 2 or more isocyanate groups with (B) a tertiary amine compound having 2 to 10 groups each selected from hydroxyl group and amino group in amounts such that a ratio by equivalent of the isocyanate group to a total of the hydroxyl group and the amino group is 0.5 to 3.0 and an ink-jet recording paper coated with the agent. By coating ink-jet recording paper of regular paper or coated paper with the agent for improving water resistance of ink-jet recording paper of the present invention, water resistance of images and characters recorded on the recording paper is improved and blotting with ink is suppressed.
