  Eine wäßrige alkalische Lösung von Salzen der Anthrachinondisulfonsäure, beispielsweise die Waschlösung einer Stretfordwäsche zur Entfernung von Schwefelwasserstoff aus Gasgemischen enthält unerwünschte Verbindungen, insbesondere Alkalisulfate. Zum Abbau dieser Verbindungen wird ein Teilstrom (10) der Lösung einer unter reduzierenden Bedingungen stattfindenden Verbrennung (11) zugeführt. Das flüssige Verbrennungsprodukt (14) wird mit einem sauerstoffhaltigen Gas in Kontakt gebracht (15) und wieder in die Waschlösung zurückgeleitet.
