    A thermosetting epoxy resin composition of one pack type is provided which contains as indispensable constituents (I) an epoxy resin containing more than one adjacent epoxy groups on the average in the molecule and (II) curing amount or curing-accelerating amount of a compound obtained by reacting (a) a specified amine/epoxy adduct with (b) phenolic , resin(s) and/or polyhydric phenol compound(s) in a weight ratio of (a) to (b) of 1/0.1 to 1/0.8.     Disclosed are: a high-performance polyphenylene ether-organoclay complex which is significantly improved in fire retardancy, durability (e.g., light resistance, chemical resistance, impact resistance), an ability of being extruded into a sheet and the like; and others. The polyphenylene ether-organoclay complex can be produced by: preparing a mixture comprising a solvent, a catalyst, a phenolic compound and an organoclay, wherein the organoclay is contained in an amount of 0.1 to 20 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of the phenolic compound; contacting the mixture with an oxygen-containing gas to cause the oxidative polymerizationof the phenolic compound; and removing the solvent and the catalyst from the resulting polymerization mixture. This method is applicable to the production of a complex of an organoclay with other polymers such as an aromatic polycarbonate, a polyether imide and a polyacrylate.
