  A liquid crystal display device includes a pair of substrates, a liquid crystal layer that is disposed between the pair of substrates and includes a liquid crystal molecule, an alignment film that is disposed between each of the pair of substrates and the liquid crystal layer and includes a macromolecule containing a functional group having dielectric anisotropy, and a polymer layer that is disposed between the alignment film and the liquid crystal layer and includes a polymer of a polymerizable monomer.
