  This disclosure relates to a composition for use as an additive for fuels and lubricants including an amination product of an epoxidized vinyl terminated macromonomer (VTM) and an amino compound containing at least one -NH- group. The epoxidized VTM is reacted with the amino compound containing at least one -NH- group under amination conditions sufficient to give said composition. The epoxidized VTM is formed by reacting a VTM with an epoxidizing agent under epoxidation conditions sufficient to give an epoxidized VTM. An amination method for making a composition for use as an additive for fuels and lubricants. The method comprises reacting an epoxidized VTM with an amino compound containing at least one -NH- group under amination conditions sufficient to give the composition.   Provided is a method of improving nitrile seal compatibility with a lubricating oil in an engine lubricated with the lubricating oil. The method includes using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil comprising a lubricating oil base stock as a major component and an alkylated aromatic base stock as a minor component. Nitrile seal compatibility is improved as compared to nitrile seal compatibility achieved using a lubricating oil containing a minor component other than the alkylated aromatic base stock, e.g., an ester. A lubricating engine oil comprising a lubricating oil base stock as a major component and an alkylated aromatic base stock as a minor component. The alkylated aromatic base stock is present in an amount sufficient for the lubricating oil to exhibit improved nitrile seal compatibility as compared to nitrile seal compatibility achieved using a lubricating oil containing a minor component other than the alkylated aromatic base stock.

  A method for improving thermo-oxidative stability and elastomer compatibility in an apparatus lubricated with a lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil including a lubricating oil base stock.
