Alkylation of lithiated -(benzyloxyacetyl)--2,5-bis(mehtoxyymethoxymethyl)- pyrrolidine proceeded with high stereoselectivity (≥96% de) and subsequent transformations of the alkylated products gave synthetically useful α-benzyloxy acids or α-hydroxy acids of high enantiomeric purity.
