  The condensation of lithiated (S)-N,N-dimethyl-1-phenylethylamine with o-methoxybenzophenones occurs in a nonstereoselective fashion due to possible coordination of lithium not only at the carbonyl group but also at the oxygen atom of the ortho-methoxy group.
