New preparative methods are described for obtaining N,N-unsubstituted bis-hydrazones of aliphaticpolyfluorinatedα-dicarbonylcompounds from hydrazine hydrate and easily available polyfluoroaldehydes or perfluoro-4-methyl-2-pentene.
New polyfluorinated 1-amino- 1,2,3-triazoles were obtained by oxidation of the bis-hydrazones of aliphaticpolyfluorinatedα-dicarbonylcompounds with sulphuryl chloride, bromine or selenium dioxide in an aprotic solvent.

Treatment of the hydrazone of 2H-perfluoro-2-methyl-3-pentanone with triethylamine at elevated temperatures yields a methylenecyclobutene via degradation to an acetylene followed by dimerization. The dimerization occurs even at -78 degrees C, and details of the reaction pathway have been elucidated. Both the acidity and the conformational dynamics of the methylenecyclobutene are influenced by buttressing effects in this crowded molecule.

Oxidation of N,N'-unsubstituted 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-4-trifluoromethylpentane-2,3-dione bishydrazone with sulfuryl chloride or bromine in CCl4 gives 1-amino-5-trifluoromethyl-4-(1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropyl)-1,2,3-triazo in high yield. Its structure has been confirmed by X-ray structural analysis.
