The reactions of N-benzoylaminoacetamidine(IIIa) and N-benzyloxycarbonylaminoacetamidine(IIIb) with various 1,3-bifunctional compounds were investigated. Both IIIa and IIIb were found to react with acetylacetone to produce 2-amino-3-benzoylamino-4,6-dimethylpyridine and 2-amino-3-benzyloxycarbonylamino-4,6-dimethylpyridine, respectively.
