Preparation and crystal structure of fac-[Mo(bpt)(CO)3][bpt = 1,3-bis(2-pyridyl)-1-thiapropane]

The reaction of pyridine-2-thiol with 2-vinylpyridine under reflux conditions affords a new asymmetric thioether, 1,3-bis(2-pyridyl)-1-thiapropane (bpt), which reacts readily with [Mo(CO)3(MeCN)3] in MeCN to give fac-[Mo(bptXCO)3]. The last compound has been characterised by heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy and by an X-ray crystal structure determination.
