A Cu-catalyzed synthesis of amides from alcohols and secondary amines using the oxygen in air as the terminal oxidant has been developed. The first palladium-catalyzedcross-coupling reaction between substituted arylboronicacids and chloroformate or carbamoyl chloride is described. One-carbon homologation from arylboronicacids was achieved to give corresponding esters or amides in good yields.
