    There are provided (1) a process for producing a compound, which comprises the step of contacting a compound (A) defined by the formula, M 1 L 1 3 , a compound (B) defined by the formula, R 1 t-1 TH, and a compound (C) defined by the formula, R 2 t-2 TH 2 ; (2) a catalyst component for addition polymerization, which comprises a compound produced by said process; (3) a process for producing a polymerization catalyst, which comprises the step of contacting said catalyst component with a transition metal compound and an optional organoaluminum compound; and (4) a process for producing an addition polymer, which comprises the step of addition polymerizing an addition polymerizable monomer in the presence of a catalyst produced by said process.

    There are provided: (I) a catalyst component for addition polymerization comprising: (i) a transition metal compound having (a) two cyclopentadiene type anion skeleton-carrying groups, which are linked with each other directly or through a bridging group, and (b) a hafnium atom as its central metal, and (ii) a transition metal compound having (a) two substituted cyclopentadiene type anion skeleton-carrying groups, which are not linked with each other, and (b) a zirconium atom or a titanium atom as its central atom; and (II) a process for producing a catalyst for addition polymerization, which comprises the step of contacting the above catalyst component with a co-catalyst component for activation.

    The problems 1 to be solved by the present invention is to provide a modified solid poiyaikyialuminoxane capable of producing an α-olefin suppressing adhesion of any Polymer produced as a by-product onto the reactor wall and the stirrer and capable of providing a highly active olefin oligomerization reaction catalyst, and an olefin oligomerization reaction catalyst including the modified solid polyalkylaluminoxane. The present invention relates to a modified solid polyalkylaluminoxane for olefin oligomerization reactions, that comprises structural units represented by the following general formula (a) and structural units represented by the hollowing general formula (b), and whose median diameter is equal to oe larger than 0.1 µm and equal to or smaller than 50 µm, in which 1 the general formula (a) represents an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and R" in the general formula (b) represents a halogenated alkoxy group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms or a halogenated aryloxy group having 6 to 20 carbon atoms.
