    The present invention provides a method for continuously producing a diaryl carbonate stably for a long time with high productivity. The method for producing a diaryl carbonate according to the present invention comprises a step (1) of obtaining an alkylaryl carbonate; a step (2) of obtaining a reaction product from the alkylaryl carbonate; a step (3) of separating the diaryl carbonate and a high boiling component from the reaction product; and a step (4) of recycling the high boiling component into the steps (1) and/or (2), wherein the high boiling component recycled in the step (4) includes a particular compound, and the particular compound satisfies a particular condition.

    A method for producing an aromatic carbonate, comprising: (1) performing a reaction between an organometal compound and carbon dioxide to obtain a reaction mixture containing a dialkyl carbonate formed by the reaction, (2) separating the dialkyl carbonate from the reaction mixture to obtain a residual liquid, (3) reacting the residual liquid with an alcohol to form at least one organometal compound and form water and removing the water from the organometal compound, and (4) reacting the dialkyl carbonate separated in step (2) with an aromatic hydroxy compound to obtain an aromatic carbonate.

    To provide a method by which aromatic carbonates can be efficiently manufactured from dialkyl carbonate and an aromatic hydroxy compound with little production of alkyl aromatic ether by-product. Manufacturing method for aromatic carbonates in which dialkyl carbonate and an aromatic hydroxy compound are reacted in the presence of a catalyst under the following conditions: (1) the catalyst used has a specified catalytic activity, (2) values are selected from within specified ranges for amount of catalyst used c, reaction time r, ratio d of raw materials in the reaction system, and reaction temperature t, (3) these values satisfy the relations g(r,t) ≤ 2 and f(c,r,t,d) ≥ 0.02, and (4) the selectivity for alkyl aromatic ethers is less than 1 percent, based on the amount of aromatic hydroxy compound fed to the reaction. Hereinabove, g(r,t,) = (r) ×exp[36-17 ×1000/(273 + t)}], f(c,r,t,d) = (c)×(r)xexp[36-17×1000/(273 + t)}×d/1 + d)2).

    Disclosed is a process for producing an aromatic carbonate which comprises transesterifying, in the presence of a metal-containing catalyst, a starting material selected from the group consisting of a dialkyl carbonate, an alkyl aryl carbonate and a mixture thereof with a reactant selected from the group consisting of an aromatic monohydroxy compound, an alkyl aryl carbonate and a mixture thereof, wherein the transesterification is conducted while maintaining a weight ratio (WR) of at least one aromatic group-containing substance selected from the group consisting of a specific aromatic polyhydroxy compound and a residue thereof to the metal of the metal-containing catalyst at 2.0 or less, wherein the weight ratio (WR) is measured with respect to a catalyst-containing liquid-phase mixture in a system for the transesterification, and wherein the aromatic group-containing substance originates from the starting material, the reactant and/or a by-product of the transesterification. According to the process of the present invention, the transesterification reaction can be conducted without suffering disadvantageous phenomena, such as the deposition of the catalyst from the catalyst-containing liquid-phase mixture and the adhesion of the deposited catalyst to the inner walls of the reactor, pipes and the like, so that the desired aromatic carbonate can be produced stably for a prolonged period of time.

    A process for producing an aromatic carbonate, which comprises the steps of: (I) transesterifying a starting material selected from the group consisting of a dialkyl carbonate, an alkyl aryl carbonate and a mixture thereof with a reactant selected from the group consisting of an aromatic monohydroxy compound, an alkyl aryl carbonate and a mixture thereof, in the presence of a catalyst, to thereby obtain a high boiling point reaction mixture comprising an aromatic carbonate (a) and an aromatic carbonate ether (b), while withdrawing a low boiling point reaction mixture containing a low boiling point by-product; and (II) separating the aromatic carbonate ether (b) from the high boiling point reaction mixture to thereby obtain a high purity aromatic carbonate.
