A series of highly functionalized 2-pyrrolines have been constructed by using a novel FeCl(3)-catalyzed reaction of aziridines with arylalkynes, in which an aryl-substituted alkenyl cation is involved.
Ring-opening formal hetero-[5+2] cycloaddition of 1-tosyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroles with terminal alkynes: entry to 1-tosyl-2,3-dihydro 2,3-dihydro-1H-azepines

A new Lewis acid catalysed formal hetero-[5+2] cycloaddition of 2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroles to terminal alkynes is described. By employing a FeCl3 and BF3·OEt2 co-catalytic strategy, the ring-opening of 1-tosyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroles by selectivecleavage of the C(sp2)–N bond and subsequent annulation have been achieved to access 1-tosyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-azepines with excellent regioselectivity, offering

A photocatalytic [3+2] cycloaddition of aziridines with activated alkynes is reported under visible-light irradiation in the presence of ruthenium catalyst. This chemical transformation provides polysubstituted pyrrolidines in good yields based on the click chemistry philosophy. The reaction successfully represents a primary trial of cyclocarboamination through photocascade catalysis combining energy

Silver forges the ring: A new and practical silver‐catalyzed [5+2] cycloaddition method has been developed for the synthesis of azepines through the formation of four new chemical bonds between a γ‐amino ketone and an alkyne in one step. This method provides a new hetero‐[5+2] cycloaddition strategy for the construction of seven‐membered ring systems.
