In this study, two water-soluble fluorescent probes based on pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinoline derivatives (4a and 4b) were synthesized and characterized by IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, MS spectra and elemental analysis for the first time. The obtained compounds (4a and 4b) showed fluorescent 'turn-on' phenomenon to Ag+ with limits of detection (LOD) of 0.6 mu M (4a) and 0.8 mu M (4b) (S/N=3), respectively. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
