2,9-Dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (neocuproine, 1) has been attached to dendritic structures through its 5-position providing a trimer 7 and the hexamers 11 and 12. The copper-binding capability of the hexamer 12 has been studied, and the 6:1 complex has been used to catalyze the Cu+-promoted substitution of an iodoarene 14 to give an aryl ether 15.
