  Oxidation of the enol diphenylphosphate ester derived from a 3-substituted 2,4,4-trimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-one by the CrO3-DMP reagent affords in high yield the cross-conjugated dienone 8. The same dienone can be obtained from safranal derivative 10 by reaction with the same reagent.

  The synthesis of a series of oxygenated cyclohexenes 1, 2, 11, 14, 18, and 19 that possess suitable functionality for further elaboration for taxoid synthesis is described.
