The reactions of tris(trimethylsilyl)silicon iodides and hydrides with iodine monochloride

TsiSiEtMeI give approximately 25 and 35%, respectively, of the rearranged chlorides (Me3Si)2C(SiMe2Cl)(SiEt2Me) and (Me3Si)2C(SiMe2Cl)(SiEtMe2, along with the unrearranged TsiSiEt2Cl and TsiSiEtMeCl. The reactions are suggested to proceed through methyl-bridged cationic intermediates in ion-pairs formed by abstraction of I− by ICl.
