The condensation of tryptanthrin, as well as its 2,8-dimethyl and 2,8-dibromo derivatives with indole gave previously unreported 6,6-di(indol-3-yl)indolo[2,1-b]quinazolin-12(6H)-ones. 2,8-Disubstituted tryptanthrins and 6,6-di(indol-3-yl)indolo[2,1-b]quinazolin-12(6H)-one were shown to inhibit Candida albicans KMM 455.
