Abstract A series of new functionalized 2,3,4,5-tetraphenylsiloles were successfully synthesized in good yields by hydrosilylation reaction of 1-methyl-2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-1H-silole with p-ethynyl benzene derivatives. This synthesis provides a convenient method of introducing reactive electron-withdrawing or electro–donating groups into siloles. All new siloles show aggregation-induced emission (AIE)
the dual emission is tuned by the aggregation state in the mixed solvent. The compound containing silole and pyrene units shows polymorphism-dependent solid-state emissive behavior. The crystal packing of the target compounds is influenced by the stericeffects of corresponding different molecular structures.

Three different types of silacyclopentadienyl anions have been obtained in the reduction of 1-methylsilole 1 with excess lithium. Treatment of lithiated solution with dimethylchlorosilane gave 2,5-bis(dimethylsilyl)silole derivatives 3a and 3b, and with trimethylchlorosilane gave 1-trimethylsilyl-1-methylsilole derivative 4 at an early stage, and 1,1-bis(trimethylsilyl)silole derivative 8 at a late stage. Silole 1,1-dianion 7 has been formed via silole 2,5-dianion 2 and silole 1-anion 5.

Molybdenum hexacarbonyl forms the bis(diene) complex [Mo(C4Ph2H2SiMe2)2(CO)2], but the same ligand forms only an arene complex with chromium hexacarbonyl, [Cr(C4Ph2H2SiMe2)(CO)3]. Both [Co2(C4Ph2H2SiMe2)(CO)6] and [Co2(C4Ph2H2SiMe2)2(CO)4] have been observed but only the latter could be isolated.
