Cl‐ued together: Two chloroazodyes that only differ in the length of the flexible alkyl chains demonstrate different mesogenic behavior during thermal processes. The one with the C7H15 (1 a; see picture) alkyl chain shows an SmA phase, whereas the one with the C5H11 alkyl chain does not. The corresponding SmA phase of 1 a is attributed to intermolecularCl⋅⋅⋅Hinteractions.
