A series of manganese complexes of 1,4,7,-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane homologues has been prepared. The ligand bears on position 1 or 2, alkyl and/or benzyl substituents resulting in an increase of lipophilicity of the coordination complex measured by the log P values. The lipophilic complexes dissolve well in organic solvents like dichloromethane. This permits them to be used as homogenous catalysts in two phase epoxidation of lipophilic substrate like styrene and dodecene using hydrogen peroxide as oxidant. Also the most lipophilic complexes activate hydrogen peroxide for bactericidal activity. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.

Detergent bleach compositions are disclosed comprising a surface active material, a peroxide bleaching agent and a dinuclear manganese complex as the bleach catalyst, characterised in that the composition comprises from 0-25% by weight of anionic surfactant and from 7.5-55% by weight of nonionic surfactant, the weight ratio of nonionic surfactant to anionic surfactant being at least 0.75 if the composition contains not more than 7.5% by weight of a carbonate, expressed as sodium carbonate, and at least 2.2. if the composition contains more than 7.5% by weight of a carbonate.

The present invention concerns a composition comprising Mn(II) oxalate, a protonated salt of a cyclic triamine, an absorbent, coated by a water-soluble polymer. In another embodiment the invention concerns a composition comprising a protonated salt of a cyclic triamine and no or very small amounts of Mn. The invention also concerns methods of preparing said compositions comprising Mn(II) oxalate and such salts or comprising such salts and no Mn compound and bleaching formulations comprising the compositions and a peroxy compound or a precursor thereof. Compositions comprising Mn(II) oxalate and the salt or comprising the salt and no Mn compound, and formulations comprising these are suitable for use in catalysing oxidation, for example as a component of a dishwasher bleaching composition. The invention further relates to methods of oxidising with the bleaching formulations described herein.
