  The reaction of cyclopropylphosphonium salts with α-mercapto ketones, using the reported conditions for the reaction of an ω-functionalised carbonyl compound, failed to give the expected thiopyrans. An alternative procedure, which allowed the synthesis of sensitive compounds is provided.
