Synthesis and characterization of Group 14 elements—dithienylsulfur cycloadducts and oligomers

The reactions of various organometallic dichlorides R2MCl2 (R = Bu, Ph; M = Si, Ge, Sn) with 2,2'-dilithio 3,3'-dithienylsulfur were described. They gave simultaneously cycloadducts and oligomers. The X-ray crystal structure of the heterocycle 3b shows a slightly distorted six-membered ring with the two heteroatoms (sulfur and germanium) in a boat conformation. The molecular weights of the oligomers were determined by size exclusion chromatography. Starting from metal divalent species, insoluble oligomers were obtained. The presence of bivalent metallic sites in these chains was verified by cycloaddition reaction with 3,5-di-t-butyl orthoquinone. Electrical studies show that these non-doped oligomers behave as semi-conductors. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
Reaction of tetrachlorogermane with thienyl- and phenylchlorosilanes in presence of aluminum chloride. Synthesis of thienylchlorogermanes

Reaction of tetrachlorogermane with 2-thienylchlorosilane and methyl(2-thienyl)dichlorosilane in presence of AlCl3 is studied. It was shown that in the reaction with 2-thienyltrichlorosilane 2-thienyltrichlorogermane mainly formed, while in the reactions with methyl(2-thienyl)dichlorosiulane aromatic germaniumcontaining compounds like 2-thienyltrichlorogermane and di(2-thienyl)dichlorogermane were obtained. Quantum-chemical calculations showed that the reaction of chlorine atoms exchange in GeCl4 with aromatic moiety formed from arylchlorosilanes in the presence of AlCl3 proceeds through a four-membered activated complex.
Polymeric organogermanium systems. Synthesis of poly[(germanediyl)thiophenes or furans] and poly[bis(2-thienyl)germanium]

The syntheses of the polycarbogermanes poly[2,5-(dimethylgermyl)thiophene] (1), poly[bis(2-thienyl)germanium or tin] (2,3) and poly[2,5-bis(2-thienylgermyl)thiophene] (4) by condensation between anionic species of thiophene and dichlorometal compounds are described. In addition to the polymers 1 and 4 macrocyclic tetramers 5 and 6 are produced in the same reactions. Alternative syntheses of the macrocyclic [1(4)]dimethylgerma-2,5-thiophenocalixarene (5) and [1(4)]dimethylgerma-2,5-furanocalixarene (7) were investigated. The coordination properties of heteroelements in these macrocyles are illustrated through the reaction of 7 with SnCl2.
