An efficient and practical approach to the trifluoromethylthiolation of α-haloketones/α-haloarylmethanes was developed, providing an unprecedentedly easy entry to various α-SCF3-substituted ketones/arylmethanes.

The syntheses of ∝ - sulfinated compounds are described. Their reactions with HF are investigated. A Cl/F-exchange reaction with a spontaneous rearrangement into a β-fluorinated thioethercarbonylfluoride was observed. Factors influencing the reaction and the mechanism are discussed.
A Michael-induced ring-closure (MIRC) strategy allowing the synthesis of 2-substituted aziridine-2-carboxylicesters is presented. A broad spectrum of nucleophiles can be applied, leading to large diversity of products which can be subjected to further structural modifications. Diastereoselective ring closure is observed in the case of chiral substrates.

Perhaloalkanesulfenyl chlorides are reacted with aldehydes and ketones to provide novel (perhaloalkyl)thio-substituted aldehydes and ketones which are useful organic solvents and intermediates. As intermediates, these compounds are especially useful in the preparation of their carbamate derivatives which have pesticical utility.
