Atrazine (1), Atraton (2) and Ametryn (3) are photodegraded upon 254nm irradiation, yielding 2-OH-atrazine (4) as a photoproduct. Dealkylation products are also generated, and 4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-(1,3,5)-triazine was also found as a photoproduct of 3. synthesized to study their role as a catalyst towards the reductive dechlorination of atrazine using sodiumborohydride as a mild reducing agent. The cobalt(II) phthalocyanine bearing nitro groups at the peripheral position is the most efficient catalyst with exceptionally high catalytic activity in comparison to other functional cobalt(II) phthalocyanines.

The photostimulated reaction of methyl 2,5-dichloro benzoate (1) or methyl 3,6-dichloro-2-methoxy benzoate (7) with −SnMe3 ions give good yields of the disubstitution products by the SRN1mechanism in liquid ammonia. A synergistic herbicidal composition comprising a mixture of: (a) a herbicidally effective amount of 2-(2-chloro-4-methanesulfonylbenzoyl)-1,3-cyclohexanedione; and (b) a herbicidally effective amount of 3-amino-2,5-dichlorobenzoic acid, at a weight ratio of (a) to (b) of from about 0.1:1 to about 20:1.
