The amino resin compositions have toughness, post-formability, heat resistance, high hardness and excellent gloss so that they are usable for laminated sheets, decorative sheets, molding compounds, and so on. Further, the compositions can be improved in solubility in organic solvents and liphophilicity by selecting substituents, and therefore are also usable in the fields of coatings and adhesives.

The method of the present invention is a method for alkylation of 1,3,5-triazine derivatives, characterized by reacting 1,3,5-triazine derivatives (melamines, melamine derivatives, various kinds of guanaminde derivatives, etc.) which has at least one or more amino groups or mono-substituted amino groups on carbon atom of the ring thereof, with aldehydes or ketones alcohols in the presence of a catalyst of a metal of group VII and/or group VIII in the periodic table and a hydrogen-containing gas to alkylate said at least one of amino groups or mono-substituted amino groups.
