ratio 28 : 72, but with propene only dimethyl-n-propylphosphine is produced. Bis(trifluoromethyl) phosphine gives only one adduct with each olefin. In all cases the product, or the major product where two are formed, is that predicted on the basis of formation of the most stable intermediate radical. Nitricoxide has been found to act as an oxidising agent towards the trifluoromethylphosphino-compounds, CF3PX2(X = F, Cl, H, and CF3), and (CF3)2PX (X = F, Cl, H, and P[CF3]2), reaction occurring in the temperature range 20–100°. The oxidation of (CF3)2PF and (CF3)2P·P(CF3)2 gave the new compounds (CF3)2P(:O)F and (CF3)2P(:O)·O·P(:O)(CF3)2 respectively.

Abstract : Bis(trifluoromethyl)iodophosphine sulfide reacts with limited quantities of mercury to give the diphosphorus compound (CF3)2P(S-P(CF3)2 in which the phosphorus atoms are bridged by a sulfur atom. Tetramethylbiphosphine reacts readily with olefins (C2H4, CH2:CF2, CH2:CHF, C3H6) under the action of u.v. light, to give the corresponding 1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethanes, but does not react at 100° in the dark. Tetrakis-(trifluoromethyl)biphosphine also gives the corresponding diphosphinoethanes in excellent yield when irradiated with olefins (C2H4, C2F4, C3H6, cis- and trans-MeCH:CHMe, CH2:CHF
