The preparations of [OsH4L3](L = tertiary phosphine or arsine) are described. Many neutral ligands L′(but not dinitrogen) will displace dihydrogen yielding complexes cis-[OsH2L3L′]. The hydrido-complexes are Lewis bases. They are also catalysts for olefin isomerisation and polymerization.

Dimethyl(1-naphthyl)phosphine (L) is readily metallated in the 8-(peri-)position by iridium (III), (C10H6PMe2 P–C). Thus iridium trichloride with L in 2-methoxyethanol gives [IrCl2(P–C)L2].
