Measurements of the dissociative recombination coefficients for several polyatomic ion species at 300 K

The dissociativerecombinationcoefficients, α, have been measured at 300K for severalpolyatomic positive ionspecies using a flowing afterglow/Langmuir probe (FALP) apparatus. The α range from 1.1 × 10−7 cm3 s−1 for H2F+ to 2.2 × 10−6 cm3 s−1 for the clustered species H+(CH3OH)3. Several of the ionic species included in this study are considered to be involved in the synthesis of interstellar molecules

Vibrational Spectra of Fluoronium Ions, FH2+, FD2+, and FHD<sup>+</sup>

The first direct observation of fluoronium ions, FH2+, FD2+, and FHD+, is reported. The method of production of the fluoronium salts is described, and their infrared spectra are analyzed. The structure of the fluoronium ions is shown to be angular. The force constants have been evaluated. In the presence of liquid hydrogen fluoride, the fluoronium ions are strongly solvated by hydrogen bonds in the form (HF)nH+.
