A convenient approach to 1,2-dihydro-1,4,2-benzodiazaphosphinines was proposed. The readily available 2-trichloromethyl-1,3-dihydrobenzo[1,3,2]diazaphosphole-2-oxide (sulfide or selenide) was found to undergo a rearrangement into the targeted benzodiazaphosphinines by the action of dimethylamide lithium. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
