ethyl methylphosphonothiolate, VX 1, were investigated with five oxidizing agents. In all the cases, the formation of the VX N-oxide 7 was observed prior to the subsequent oxidation and hydrolysis into the nontoxic O-ethyl methylphosphonate 2.
