Three 1,3-dialkylimidazolinium chloride salts and their palladium(II) complexes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and IR spectroscopy. The catalytic activities of the 1,3-dialkylimidazolinium chloride salts and their complexes in the Heck and Suzuki coupling reactions were investigated.

Abstract New rhodium(I) N- heterocyclic carbenecomplexes were synthesized in good yields by the reactions of rhodium dimer [Rh(OMe)COD] 2 with two equivalent of 1,3-dialkylimidazolinium chloride salts in tetrahydrofuran. A process for removing zinc from organic solutions comprising zinc alkoxides or zinc amides, includes admixing the solution with an alkylating, arylating, acylating or silylating agent in the presence of a precipitating reagent having at least two nitrogen donors and subsequently removing the precipitated solid.
The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of ligands capable of forming metal complexes and such complexes; novel ligands with new backbones, complexes thereof with transition metals, the use of complexes of said ligands with transition metals as catalysts, as well as novel intermediates for the manufacture of said ligands. The ligand complexes are useful in stereoselective synthesis, especially hydrogenation, of various organic molecules. Especially, the process according to the invention is directed to the synthesis of compounds of the formulae IA and IIA, wherein the substituents have the meanings given in the description, and to novel compounds of these formulae as ligands.
