    A method of making a functionalized fluorinated monomer for use in making oligomers and polymers that can be used to improve surface properties of polymer-derived systems, such as coatings. The method of making a functionalized fluorinated monomer includes reacting at least one fluorinated nucleophilic reactant, such as a fluorinated alcohol, with at least one compound containing at least one epoxide group. Other methods include reaction of a fluorinated alcohol with a cyclic carboxylic anhydride. In another embodiment, a method includes reacting a fluorinated mesylate, tosylate or triflate with an amine, alkoxide or phenoxide. In other embodiments, the method includes reacting a fluorinated alcohol with an alkyl halide, or reacting a fluorinated alkyl halide with an amine. The functionalized fluorinated monomers may be used as intermediates and reacted to modify the functional groups thereon. Further, the functionalized fluorinated monomers may be reacted to form polymers or oligomers, or with polymers or oligomers having functional groups to modify the polymer or oligomer through the functional group thereon,

    Provided is a method for producing a lithium sulfamate. The method for producing a lithium sulfamate includes (1) reacting a compound (1) represented by the following formula (1): wherein X is fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine, with a compound (2) represented by the following formula (2) : wherein R1 and R2 are each individually a substituent that is: -H; a group represented by the formula: -Op-(SiR32O)n-SiR43 wherein R3 and R4 are each individually an alkyl group in which at least one hydrogen atom is optionally replaced with a fluorine atom, an alkenyl group in which at least one hydrogen atom is optionally replaced with a fluorine atom, an alkynyl group in which at least one hydrogen atom is optionally replaced with a fluorine atom, or an aryl group in which at least one hydrogen atom is optionally replaced with a fluorine atom; n is an integer of 0 or greater; and p is 0 or 1; a C1-C7 alkyl group; a C2-C7 alkenyl group; a C2-C7 alkynyl group; a C6-C15 aryl group; -SO2X1 wherein X1 is -H, -F, or an alkyl group in which at least one hydrogen atom is optionally replaced with a fluorine atom; -SO3X2 wherein X2 is -H, -F, or an alkyl group in which at least one hydrogen atom is optionally replaced with a fluorine atom; or a C2-C7 hydrocarbon group that forms a cyclic structure by bonding of R1 and R2, in which the cyclic structure optionally contains a multiple bond, the substituent optionally containing at least one bi- to hexavalent heteroatom in the structure and being a substituent in which at least one hydrogen atom is optionally replaced with a fluorine atom or a CO-C7 functional group, to obtain a compound (3) represented by the following formula (3): wherein R1 and R2 are defined as above.
