The preparation is reported of the class of compounds with elementary formula [R′CH2CH(CN)]2Ni where R′ is CH2CHCH2, CH3CHCHCH2, C6H5CHCHCH2, C6H5CH2, or C6H5. A polymeric structure involving CNi bonds and CNNi coordination is suggested for these complexes. Some properties of the compounds are described and the mechanism of their formation is discussed.

Silicon-directed beckmann fragmentation. Catalytic cleavage of cyclic β-trimethylsilylketoxime acetates with trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate
Cyclic (E)-β-trimethylsilylketoxime acetates were effectively cleaved by a catalytic action of trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate to give the corresponding unsaturated nitriles. The fragmentation in the Beckmann rearrangement is completely controlled and directed by trimethylsilyl group to lead regio- and stereospecific formation of the double bond.
