Two synthetic methods have been established for the preparation of enantiomerically pure desmethylzopiclone, a metabolite of zopiclone. In Method A, (S)-desmethylzopiclone was prepared by demethylation of (S)-zopiclone with 1-chloroethyl chloroformate in high yield.
