The nonlinear optically active copolymers according to the invention are polyadducts of at least one organic di- or polycyanate and a nonlinear optically active compound, i.e. a chromophore. These copolymers have outstanding thermal stability and are suitable for the fabrication of technically useful electro-optical and photonic components with long-term stability.

The invention relates to nonlinear-optically active copolymers, to crosslinked NLO polymer materials produced from them and having high orientation stability, and to electrooptical and photonic components comprising these polymer materials. The copolymers of the invention are of the general formula 1 ##STR1## in which W is preferably a chromophoric group of the general formula 2: ##STR2## The chromophores employed in accordance with the invention exhibit high thermal stability and so can be processed at elevated temperatures while retaining the optical activity.

The present invention relates to nonlinear-optically active copolymers which are composed of a chromophore acrylate, a glycidyl-functional acrylate, and a further acrylate unit, and to polyadducts produced from them by crosslinking with a carboxyl-functional polyester. The nonlinear-optical copolymers of the present invention, and the polyadducts prepared from them, possess an orientation stability in the crosslinked state, and a thermal stability, which makes them highly suitable for producing electrooptical and photonic components.

Die Erfindung betrifft chromophore, NLO-aktive Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel 1
und ein Verfahren zur Herstellung solcher Verbindungen.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen können zur Herstellung von NLO-aktiven Polymeren und damit zum Aufbau von elektrooptischen und photonischen Bauelementen verwendet werden.
Die nichtlinear-optisch aktiven Copolymere nach der Erfindung sind Polyaddukte aus mindestens einem organischen Di- oder Polycyanat und einer nichtlinear-optisch aktiven Verbindung, d.h. einem Chromophor.
