ethyl-phenylformamide 5 with sulphur tetrafluoride in the presence of potassium fluoride resulted in a direct conversion of the formyl group to the trifluoromethyl group to give excellent yields of dimethyl(trifluoromethyl)amine 2a, diethyl(trifluoromethyl )amine2b, 1-(trifluoromethyl)piperidine 4a, 4-(trifluoromethyl)morpholine 4b, and N-ethyl-N-(trifluoromethyl)aniline 6, respectively.
